6th Form Placements

Information for 6th formers

6th formers who wish to apply for a work experience placement need to contact a GP Surgery directly to ask for availability.A list of Training Practices from the GP School that take students can be downloaded here. When approaching a practice please bear in mind that due to issues surrounding confidentiality you should not approach your own practice, a practice that you know friends or relatives may be registered at, or one very close to your home.

If the practice can take you, you will be asked to complete an application formand sign a Health & Safety agreement and a Confidentiality agreement. These documents should be returned to the practice and not to the GP School.

The GP School have produced the following documents which you may find helpful -

6th Form Work Experience - A Guide for the 6th Form Student

Student Evaluation of Session

Student Evaluation of Work Experience Week

You may find it useful to complete a ‘student evaluation of session’ sheet after each session in the practice according to your timetable. At the end of your placement we advise you complete the ‘evaluation of work experience week’ document – this may help you to reflect when you are completing your application to Medical School.

Following your placement, please complete the following feedback form and send this to the GP School (the address is on the form). This will help us make suggestions and give constructive feedback to practices, and therefore improve placements for students in the future where necessary. The form does not ask for your name and therefore will remain anonymous.

Please note that the scheme is available to 6th form students only and is not aimed at post-graduate students.

Information for GP Practices

The GP School has for some time supported the provision of work experience in General Practice for prospective applicants to Medical School.

It is part of our long term strategy for recruitment and philosophy of 'growing our own' that we wish to demonstrate that General Practice can be supportive of students who need work experience in General Practice.  In addition we feel that by offering students a high quality experience they will have a better understanding of the positive attributes a career in General Practice may have to offer.

The list of Training Practices in the GP School who offer 6th form placements is available here.

Documentation for Practices

The GP School has produced a ‘work experience pack’ for the practice which is available to all those practices taking part in the scheme. This consists of the following documents:
