Mohan Kumar

Deputy Dean for GP Workforce
Bio:

I am a GP working from Wigan and a product of North Western Deanery. I have been involved in Medical Education throughout my career.  I started as an undergraduate supervisor and subsequently became a GP Trainer after securing the Post Graduate Diploma in Education via the PED course. I undertook Leadership Training at Warwick University under the DH clinical leadership development scheme.

I became involved in group education as a Course Organiser for the Wigan and Bolton structured teaching programme. I joined the Deanery team late 2006 as a project Associate Director looking at learning environment and trainer reaccreditation.

I work closely with my Programme Directors and PCMEs in co-ordinating placements, approval visits and appraisal and support of the educators and the teaching programme.
I also liaise with the CCGs and the Acute Trusts in my patch to support local medical education groups in developing newer learning environments.

My Deanery portfolio includes learning environment approval and QA as well as educator accreditation and reaccreditation. My areas of interests include communication and consultation skills using narrative methodology, using problem solving methodology in consultation, cultural competency development, medical leadership and attitudes to learning.

I assist my colleagues in recruitment, CPD, research and in the ongoing professional development of our Deanery educators via courses and master-classes including Basic Trainers Course and Consultation Skills.

I strongly believe our Deanery offers an excellent nurturing environment for educator development.  There is a lot of talent and dedication in the Deanery and this can be harnessed and shared as well as celebrated. We will continue to deliver a holistic educational journey from competence to excellence for our learners and educators using up to date educational theory and experiential narratives.
