Sujesh Bansal

Associate Dean - Hospital and Community Care
Bio: 

Professor Sujesh Bansal is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and an MAHSC Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Manchester. He is currently Associate Postgraduate Dean in the Northwest Deanery.

In his role as Associate Dean for Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs), Professor Bansal works closely with NHS England’s Postgraduate Medical Education Reform team to improve the overall experience of LEDs. His efforts focus on enhancing career progression, skills development, structured induction, and access to high-quality educational opportunities. He also holds regional ‘patch’ responsibility for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

Professor Bansal has a strong interest in the induction, supervision, and career development of overseas doctors and LEDs. He is frequently invited by national organisations to train educators, senior managers, and multidisciplinary teams on optimising working and training environments within multicultural teams & organisations. He also advises on developing robust support structures for international medical professionals.

In 2015, he designed and implemented an award-winning online induction programme for international doctors, recognised nationally for its impact and utility across the UK. He is a collaborator for the national guidance document "Welcoming and Valuing International Medical Graduates: A guide to induction for IMGs recruited to the NHS", launched in June 2022. His work has been instrumental in advancing inclusive, evidence-based strategies for IMG and LED workforce transformation.

Professor Bansal is also the Director of the Manchester International Fellowship Scheme, a multi-specialty initiative within the Trust. He serves on the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges’ MTI (Medical Training Initiative) Group and is a council member of MedEdLeaders-UK.
