North West Professional Support and Wellbeing Service

The North West Professional Support and Wellbeing Service (PSW) offers assistance to postgraduate doctors, dentists, pharmacists, and public health clinicians to support them to achieve their training. This is a pastoral service supported by the lead employer organisation who will refer to the appropriate services.

PLEASE NOTE - We do not manage health conditions. For this we recommend speaking to your general practitioner, or self-referring to Practitioner Health.

We are currently in phase two of the Professional Support and Wellbeing Service and currently offer the following:

PLEASE NOTE - We do not accept trainee self referrals, please contact your Educational Supervisor, Training Programme Director or Head of School to complete a referral to the Professional Support and Wellbeing Service with you.

Deans Case Management

The Deans Case Management group comprises of the Postgraduate Dean and Responsible Officer and senior clinicians who have oversight of Foundation, General Practice and Secondary Care resident doctors, dentists and pharmacists.

The purpose of the group is to ensure that all trainees in the North West receive equitable support as required throughout their training. This should be viewed as a supportive process to assure that the appropriate measures are put in place to maximise their training potential.

Deans Case Management Referral Guide

All of us are likely to experience periods of difficulty at some point in our own careers. One starting point when faced with a trainee requiring support is to consider the type of support and guidance you might want if you were in the same situation.

This updated document aims to give guidance on early management and support of trainees about whom there may be concern. It has been produced for use by Heads of School and Training Programme Directors, although we hope that it will be a useful reference for all educators supervising our trainees.
