Medical Leadership

Leadership Development Tools

Health Education North West has developed tools to help you focus and reflect on your leadership skills. The following leadership development tools were originally designed for use by trainees on the Medical Leadership Fellowship programme, but have since been developed for use by all trainees, GPs, Consultants, SASG and other post CCT doctors. If you are a trainee, you can use the tools and attach to your portfolio. Similarly, GPs, Consultants and other post CCT doctors can attach the tools to your revalidation portfolio.

Medical Leadership Competency Framework

The Medical Leadership Competency Framework (MLCF) was jointly developed by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement in conjunction with a wide range of stakeholders.

The MLCF describes the leadership competences that doctors need to become more actively involved in the planning, delivery and transformation of health services.

The links provided within this section provide a range of resources - books, YouTube vidoes and articles. They also include an on-line questionnaire that helps you assess your own resilience, and give you ideas on how to develop your resilience further.

We suggest you browse through the resources listed to see what appeals to you.
