This resource pack is designed to support developmental conversations about leadership between trainees and supervisors in postgraduate training.  The pack is based on the nine dimensions of the Healthcare Leadership Model (HLM), and it can be used in its entirety or to complement existing leadership or management training programmes.

Education Development (Autumn 2016 Issue)

Welcome to the third issue of Education Development, a newsletter update of workstreams, activities and events of the Education Development team at Health Education England’s North West Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education department.

This edition says a fond farewell to Professor Jacky Hayden who led the department for 20 years, and hello to the new Dean, Dr Jane Mamelok, who many of you will know from her various roles throughout her years here and most recently as Deputy Dean Primary Medical Care and Public Health.

6th Annual North West Medical Leadership Conference (2016)

On Friday 4th March 2016 the 6th Annual North West Medical Leadership conference took place at the Macron Stadium in snowy Bolton.  Resources from the day include the brochure, videos of the speakers and presentations from the workshops.

Barbara Fredrickson

Barbara Fredrickson is an America Professor of Psychology at North Carolina. She has written extensively on positive emotions and links with resilience, and worked with Marcel Losado on the Losado ration. She has developed the broaden and build theory of positive emotions.

 

Barbara's book Positivity looks at 

  • Why positivity is more important than happiness
  • How it relieves depression, broadens minds, and builds lives
  • How to tap into your own sources of positivity

 

Current background and theories around resilience - Dr Rebecca Baron

Dr Rebecca Baron, Associate Postgraduate Dean for GP at Health Education England (North West Office) presented an overview of current background and theories around resilience and ideas of how to improve your own resilience.  This was recorded at the North West Medical Leadership School meeting in December 2015
