Ruth Gottstein

Associate Dean - Hospital and Community Care
Bio: 

Ruth Gottstein was born and educated in Ireland and graduated in medicine from Trinity College, University of Dublin. After several years working in Ireland, she completed her paediatric and neonatal subspecialty training across Cheshire, Mersey, and Manchester.

She currently works as a Consultant Neonatologist at the tertiary-level neonatal medical and surgical intensive care unit at St Mary’s Hospital, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Her clinical interests include neonatal cardiology and neonatal haematology.

Ruth has a strong commitment to medical education and has delivered, facilitated, and debriefed simulation sessions and courses. She has held several key educational roles, including RCPCH College Tutor, Training Programme Director for core paediatric trainees in Greater Manchester, and Associate Head of the North West Paediatric School. In 2023, she was appointed Postgraduate Associate Dean for Workforce, Training and Education. She previously served as Associate Dean for the School of Obstetrics before transitioning to the School of Pathology.

Her portfolio also includes oversight of Supported Return to Training and Less Than Full Time Training. In 2025, Ruth played a pivotal role in introducing the first AI Fellows to the North West Deanery.
