National Training Survey FAQ's for Trainers - 2020

National Training Survey

The National Training Survey (NTS) is a core part of the work that the GMC carries out each year to monitor the quality of medical education and training in the UK. It is your opportunity to help improve the quality of postgraduate and foundation training across the UK.

Please go to www.gmc-uk.org/nts for more information.

In 2016 the GMC re-introduced the survey of doctors who provide training. You can read more about this at the national trainer survey

The survey results are invaluable in providing us with information and evidence on where our areas of best practice are, as well as areas where improvements need to be made.

HEE NW uses the outcome data from the surveys to inform which specialties to see during our monitoring visits and we also ask Trust and specialty leads to provide action plans relating to the survey results which we then feed back to the GMC.

We would like to say a big “Thank You” to all trainees and trainers who took the time to complete the 2019 survey. We would also like to thank the Trusts, Schools and HEE NW Stakeholders who contributed to this important piece of work.

The results from the 2019 National Training Survey can be found on the GMC website within the reporting tool.

The NTS reporting tool can be accessed via the GMC website and used to view various outlier, indicator and trend analysis reports. Help on how to use the tool can be found in videos and a user guide.
