Why Medical Leadership?

The Importance of Leadership for Doctors

Leadership is increasingly recognised as one of the skills that all doctors need. Medical Leadership is about leadership at all levels, at all grades. It is not about being a Medical Director or a lead GP or consultant. All of us as doctors have a role as a leader. Leadership is about improving the medical care we all provide. It is about how we manage ourselves to provide the best care, how we work with and motivate others and how we identify changes and opportunities that can improve care. There are practical skills we can develop to support leadership.

These include personal time management, effective presentation and chairing skills, team working skills and the ability to carry out projects and identify and plan for developments.
