Cultural Diversity and Communications

SAS Event Date:
Friday, 23 February 2024 - 8:30am to 4:00pm
General Information:

Emotional intelligence (EI) or emotional quotient (EQ) is the capability of individuals to recognize their own, and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt environments or achieve one's goal/s.
Effective communication skills within medicine - or in life generally - are crucial for any successful interaction with people. This programme explores the possibilities of advanced communication within a healthcare setting, giving individuals insight and confidence in their inter-action with others.
Shared decision making and consent are fundamental to good medical practice.
This course explains that the exchange of information between doctor and patient is essential to good decision making. Serious harm can result if patients are not listened to, or if they are not given the information they need - and time and support to understand it - so they can make informed decisions about their care.
